"The Star Spangled Banner"

This shows just how on top of things I am these days.  I thought today was June 13 until just a few minutes ago.  I'm sure some country somewhere celebrates June 13 for something.  However, today is June 14.  And that, my friends, is a day of celebration (of the minor variety) in the U.S.A.  If you don't know what this day commemorates, shame on you!

 Flag Day

I pledge allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one nation, under God, indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all.

If you've never thought about these words, watch this video.  It is from 1969 (or so), but it bears repeating for every citizen!

(Remember, I'm a techno-dweeb.  I've never downloaded a video before, so I hope it works!!!)

The link below will tell you just about everything you ever wanted to know about the flag of the United States....and probably more than you wanted to know!  Nevertheless, anyone who loves this country believes in this flag and what it represents.   Most of us have gotten choked up at parades, or funerals, or ceremonies when the flag is displayed .

No matter if you think of it as Old Glory, the Stars and Stripes, the Red, White, and Blue, or "The Star-Spangled Banner"....this country has survived under this flag (or one of its ancestors) for more than 230 years keeping us FREE!

So Happy Flag Day.  Long may she wave!!

  1. AMEN AND A SALUTE.
    SO MANY SINCERE LOYAL AMERICANS.

HOWEVER, I PRAY WE NOT FORGET PEARL HARBOR AND MAINTAIN A VIGILANT ATTITUDE CONCERN THOSE WHOM WOULD DO US GREAT HARM.

QUESTION AUTHORITY. EVEN PRESIDENT OF OUR UNITED STATES. ONLY THIS MORNING IN THE 'NEWS' THAT OUR PRESIDENT PREFERS NOT USING THE WORD TERRORISTS WHEN MUSLIMS ARE INCLUDED IN THE CONVERSATION.

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THERE IS A 'MISPRINT' THERE SOMEWHERE AND IF INDEED OUR PRESIDENT IS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE WORD 'TERRORIST' THEN A NEGATIVE 'LIGHT' IS CAST ON HIS SPEECH OF ONLY THIS MORNING TO THE NAVAL ACADEMY AT PENNSACOLA.
SO MANY COMPLIMENTS TO THE LISTENERS, THANKING ALL FOR SERVICE AND LOYALTY WHILE HAVING THAT WHICH SEEMS A 'DIM VIEW' OF USING THE WORD 'TERRORISTS'.
    YES, QUESTION AUTHORITY. sam

  2. It's also my honey's birthday! Funny, my first true love in college had a birthday on Flag Day. And now my last true love has the same birthday. And, yes, we do hang a flag.

  4. As I was running down Lakeline Blvd. this morning there was a flag on a short pole (the type someone might hold when presenting colors) and it was laying on the sidewalk! It felt good to be able to pick it up and lean it against the fence instead. I hope whoever it belongs to finds a more stable way to display it.

I'm definitely in the post-modern generation that is less attached to symbols. But I was surprised at the emotion I felt, seeing that flag that had fallen to the ground. I really did feel proud that I was able to "protect" our flag.
