"Out of Nowhere"

I know I am about to shock everyone, and I am sorry to just spring it on you "Out of Nowhere", but I have an announcement to make.  I have fallen in love.  I never expected it to happen, but once you meet him, I know you will understand.

He is a funny kind of fellow.  He's sweet and cuddly.  His looks are kind of goofy, but endearing.  Compared to the rest of his extended family, he's a bit on the short side, although it suits him and doesn't seem to bother him at all.  He usually looks like he needs a haircut, but I think the shaggy look is kind of cute on him.  Like everyone he has a few unfortunate habits that can be annoying, but as they say, "Love conquers all!"  Maybe together we can conquer them. I have some bad habits too, so it's fair.

You may think I have lost my mind and in some ways you'd be right.  I just have no choice here.  He is so interesting and compelling and it was simply love at first sight.   It may be wishful thinking, but I'm pretty sure that once they get over the initial shock, even the Big Guy and my family will understand and support my new found soulmate.

He just may be the love of my life.  It's amazing to me that I found him, at this late date in my life.  How could I have gone so many years without ever noticing him before!??

His name is A. Paca Camelid....but I just call him Al....

You can see what I mean about his kind of "shaggy" looks.
He hadn't had a haircut for some time.

Look at this face and tell me you don't want to run away with him too!
How can anyone NOT love this guy??

The kids in the family are especially adorable!

So, what do you think of my new love?? LOL! Just having a little fun with you all!

In case you don't recognize what animal this is, it is an Alpaca. It is a member of the camelid family with includes llamas, camels, and vicunas. Its hair is very soft and silky and very much in demand in the textile industry. Softer and less scratchy than wool, it is spun into yarn and comes in a large number of natural colors....at least that's what is says on Wikipedia! Aren't they wonderful looking??

I was introduced to these lovely animals by my Blogger friend, Joan Haara at
http://myretirementchronicles.blogspot.com/ She has some wonderful photos of alpaca she encountered just after their annual shearing. Her blog is wonderful and the pictures are gorgeous! Go visit her and see more of these goofy looking critters.

But be very careful, otherwise, "Out of Nowhere", YOU might just fall in love too!

(DISCLAIMER: These photos are NOT from Joan's site. I kind of ....uhmmmm....stole borrowed ummm ... stumbled over them just laying around in Google. Really! lol!)

  4. Mel,
Very cute animals, but I thought you had adopted an English Sheep Dog at first glance. I guess the alpaca wool is quite valuable. I have seen yarn in the shops, but as a novice crocheter, I have not invested in any. Maybe some day.
